Record-breaking Hand from Microgaming Network

Microgamings Poker Network set several different records when a heads up game produced the largest pot in online poker history. Two highly focused and competitive players, who at one stage had $800,000 on the table between them, played a $465,461 hand during an eight hour marathon, eclipsing the previous $357,256 record by over $100,000.

This slice of poker history was watched by 600 people and the chat box on the site was almost overwhelmed by the number of excited and frantic posts. According to spectators worldwide, comments were being entered so rapidly there was hardly even time to read them let alone respond.

After more than 8 hours of play on the $200/400 No Limit Heads Up table at the Microgaming Poker Network, one player had accumulated over $700,000 while the other had around $80,000.

The game started out with $80,000 on the table and never let up. Over eight hours, it took just over 20 rebuys at $40,000 to reach the total figure just short of $1 million in play on the table. It was a back-and-forth night as one player took charge in early play, leaving the other down a couple of hundred thousand.

It was towards the end of the night that the largest hand in the history of online poker was recorded. The $465,461 was played when the second player made an enthralling comeback by spiking 3 aces on the flop. After all the drama it is unclear how much both players had won, although the second comeback player did leave with the bulk of the money.

Roger Raatgever, CEO, Microgaming, comments, This really was a milestone for poker both in terms of stakes and spectator participation and demonstrates the dedicated following the game now attracts. I am delighted that this took place on Microgamings Poker Network and have no doubt it will not be long before all of these totals are again surpassed as online poker continues its rapid ascent in popularity.

Atlantic City May casino winnings rise 2.9 percent

Casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey, won 2.9 percent more money from gamblers in May than they did a year earlier, the state’s Casino Control Commission said on Friday.

Casinos’ gambling winnings totaled $432.5 million during the month, the state regulator said. For the first five months of the year, casinos won $2.1 billion from gamblers, up 5.9 percent over the same period last year.

Atlantic City is working to become an entertainment destination like Las Vegas, adding hotel rooms, shopping and dining to a mix still dominated by gambling.

Several casino operators, including Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. and a joint venture between MGM Mirage and Boyd Gaming Corp., are upgrading their properties in the city.

The 12 Atlantic City casinos saw their slot machine winnings rise 2.8 percent to $316.1 million, while table game revenue rose 3.2 percent to $116.4 million.
