US Gambling Legislation Hitting Gibraltar Jobs

The U.S. Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act could be claiming up to 150 victims in Gibraltar shortly according to publications, which this week reported that up to 150 employees are expected to receive redundancy notices from 888 Holdings.com.

Gibraltar is the site of 888 headquarters and it’s been suggested that over 100 employees could be laid off as a consequence of reduced business activity after the US legislation against online gambling over the summer and most recently October.

Party Gaming, which also has offices in the territory, might also experience further job losses. The company has already announced over 800 job cuts at its Ivy Computech subsidiary in Hyderabad, India. Neither company has commented as of yet on the local situation.

Party Gaming and 888.com have featured prominently in rumors sweeping the industry that various entities including Ladbrokes, MGM and Harrah’s are currently positioning for potential merger or acquisition deals.
