Three Men Convicted in Hi-Tech Casino Scam

Three men were convicted and one was sentenced to nine months in jail for scamming casinos in England for more than $400,000.

Yau Yiu Lam, 45, was sent to jail immediately for nine months. His accomplices, Bit Chai Wong, 39, and Fan Leung, 41, were given suspended sentences of nine months each, according to reports. All three men were ordered to perform 150 hours of community service and pay fines of $10,800.

The Met Police’s Gaming Unit received a call from one casino that suspected the men of cheating. It turned out that they were using sophisticated micro-cameras to spy on unsuspecting players during poker games, the report said. The images were beamed to a computer monitoring the video, and the men at the table received instructions through concealed earpieces, officials said. The scam is believed to have involved up to six different London casinos.

Casino Gaming Enhanced With New Technology

It has recently been revealed that new technology that will allow the gaming industry to switch to online versions of established games and systems has been launched after more than a year of development.

The Game-to-System (G2S) protocol has been created by the Gaming Standards Association (GSA), and will enable numerous manufacturers to make their concepts a reality. The Gaming Standards Association is dedicated to the development and implementation of electronic communications for casino hardware, including slot machines and management systems.

“This is the moment we have been waiting for and working toward. Across the floor at G2E [The Global Gaming Expo] this past November, manufacturer after manufacturer was showing concepts that could only come to fruition with G2S, and now, here we are, standing at the door of the future,” said GSA President Peter DeRaedt.

The latest development comes as online casinos continue to flourish, highlighting the importance of technology in the future of gambling – both online and offline.
