A.C. casino revenues down 14.2 percent in April

Atlantic City’s 11 casinos say they won 14.2 percent less in April than they did a year ago.

But in a recession in which the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs nationwide is seen as encouraging news because the number wasn’t even higher, Atlantic City’s figures represent a tiny glimmer of hope, coming after two consecutive months of record-breaking revenue plunges.

In March, the decline was 19.4 percent, the biggest monthly drop in the 31-year history of legalized gambling in the nation’s second-largest casino market.

In April, the casinos won $313.6 million.

Slot revenue, Atlantic City’s bread-and-butter, fell 14.9 percent to $220.6 million. Table games brought in $92.9 million, down 12.5 percent from a year ago.

Philadelphians citizens support casinos

Philadelphians favor bringing slot parlors to the city, but are split on the sites chosen, a Pew Charitable Trusts poll released Wednesday showed.

Overall, 53 percent of city residents support slot-machine gambling, while 41 percent are against it, according to the poll, which was commissioned by Pew’s Philadelphia Research Initiative.

Those polled said they support plans for the SugarHouse Casino on the Delaware River in Fishtown, but oppose the idea of a casino in Market Street East, where the Foxwoods Casino is proposed.

Sixty percent support the SugarHouse site, while 35 percent are opposed. In the case of the Market East proposal, 57 percent opposed the plan, while 39 percent favor it.

Foxwoods said April 8 it hoped to build a casino inside the former Strawbridge’s department store at 8th and Market streets.

Both casinos have received support from Mayor Michael Nutter. The SugarHouse plan faces a May 6 hearing with state regulators. Foxwoods needs a zoning variance, which will be considered by City Council on May 7.

Life-Changing Progressive Jackpot Is the Largest in Northern California History

Red Hawk Casino announced today that Sandi M., a Rewards Club member from the San Francisco Bay Area, won a $1,803,050 jackpot on Monday, April 20, the largest jackpot paid out by a Northern California casino in the state’s history.

Sandi M. regularly visits Red Hawk Casino with her two best friends to play the wide-area progressive jackpots. She played Fa Fa Fa Fortune King™, an Aristocrat Technologies penny slot machine, on Sunday, April 19, while qualifying for the “100 Chances to Score” a Cadillac® CTS giveaway. She returned to Red Hawk Casino on Monday, April 20, to try her luck on the same slot machine and hit the Hyperlink® progressive jackpot for $1.8 million after inserting only $20.

Sandi said that she plans to donate a portion of her winnings to her local food bank, and will take a vacation to Florida to surprise her mother. When describing the moment that she won the life-changing jackpot, Sandi said, “I put the first $20 in the machine and then all of a sudden there it was. I stared at the machine, called my friend over, and then I started shaking. I’ve never had something like this happen. Red Hawk Casino is definitely my favorite.”

“We are thrilled that Sandi’s life-changing jackpot is the largest in Northern California’s history,” said Peter Fordham, General Manager of Red Hawk Casino. “With five players each having won jackpots in excess of $100,000 in the past four months, and a $1 million winner named during our Grand Opening Celebration, Red Hawk Casino is home to Northern California’s biggest winners.”

Red Hawk Casino has games linked to several multi-state Native American progressive gaming networks, which offer some of the highest jackpots in the Sacramento region. Top awards on these games continue to grow as coins are played anywhere within the network of linked games and the progressive jackpots can be won at any casino on the link.

SEO firm releases study on SEO utilization by gambling sector
An interesting study that relates search engine marketing with the gambling industry has been released recently by Clickthrough Marketing. The study looked at how the top gambling firms employ the best in Internet search terms, keywords and key phrases. Further, it reviewed how organic search strategies, pay-per-click and search engine optimization techniques affected ranking results for all major players.
The Q1 2009 Gambling Sector report gave valuable specific insights regarding Internet search phrases in the on-line gaming environment for the UK market. It compared and ranked the main categories mostly used in gambling-related searches such poker, bingo, betting, casino, fair, responsible and gambling. But more importantly, it assessed the actual cost per click for the top 90% of all searched key phrases. This particular data alone is of vast importance to on-line casinos hoping to improve their customer base.

The report then proceeded with comparisons of the percentage visibility between major on-line gaming players via PPC. Top scorers on the percentage visibility score were William Hill, 888, Bet365, Betfair and Virgin Games, in that order. What is most interesting to read is that Google ranks gambling portals using natural search terms for all the important core search phrases and puts them on a chart for easy view.
